Submitted on: 01.24.2008
At its first quarterly board meeting, Jan. 24, in Sacramento, the CHI board of directors approved the organization's 2008 federal and state policy agendas.  On the federal level, with our state’s congressional delegation holding leadership positions of great importance to the industry, CHI is well positioned to advocate policies to advance biomedical research and development.  In 2008, CHI will focus on patent reform, government coverage and reimbursement policies and regulation, comparative effectiveness, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval process, and science research and education.  In the state, CHI will educate members of the Legislature on the the industry’s significant economic contribution and impact on human health.  Top state priorities for 2008 include improving the business and regulatory environment, ensuring continued innovation and patient access as policymakers attempt to reform the current healthcare system, implementation of the new electronic pedigree requirement, and improving education to meet the future workforce needs of the industry.
