(LA JOLLA, CALIF., April 29, 2008) - The California Healthcare Institute (CHI) today announced that Daniel O'Day, president and chief executive officer at Roche Molecular Diagnostics (RMD), located in Pleasanton, Calif., and Michael Onuscheck, president of the neuromodulation division of Boston Scientific Corporation located in Valencia, Calif., have been elected to its board of directors. CHI is a non-profit public policy research organization, representing leading California academic institutions, biotechnology, medical device, diagnostics and pharmaceutical firms.
"Medical devices and molecular diagnostics are both important and growing sectors of our industry in California," said David Gollaher, Ph.D., CHI's president and CEO. "Roche and Boston Scientific are making major investments in our state. Their joining our board will help CHI address the increasing number and complexity of policy issues facing the device and diagnostics sectors."
Daniel O'Day joined RMD as president and CEO in April 2006, and has overseen the company's transition from a primarily licensing-driven to a customer-driven business. O'Day has been with Roche for more than 20 years, following positions of increasing responsibility in sales, marketing, and human resources. He spent 11 years managing international assignments that included life cycle leadership at Roche Pharmaceuticals in Basel, Switzerland; strategic planning and involvement in the Chugai merger in Tokyo, Japan; and, prior to joining the molecular diagnostics unit, served as General Manager of Roche Pharmaceuticals in Denmark. O'Day holds an undergraduate degree in biology from Georgetown University and a Master of Business Administration from Columbia University.
Michael Onuscheck is president of the neuromodulation division at Boston Scientific Corporation, a worldwide developer, manufacturer and marketer of medical devices whose products are used in the treatment of chronic intractable pain. Before joining Boston Scientific, Onuscheck held positions at Medtronic Sofamor Danek in spinal reconstructive surgery and stereotactic image guided surgery, and later at Advanced Bionics,where he led the sales, services, technical service and customer service organizations for the auditory division. Onuscheck received his bachelor's degree in business administration and psychology from Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, PA.
